Raw gas drying and purification before Ozone production

In industrial ozone production, Chemxin molecular sieves and activated alumina are often used, but their role is not to directly "produce" ozone, but to perform crucial pretreatment of the raw gas (usually air or oxygen) - drying and purification.


Molecular sieves and activated alumina function:

As highly efficient adsorbents (desiccant and purifiers) in the pretreatment system.

Deep drying: Their primary function is to remove water vapor from the feed gas, reducing its dew point to very low levels (e.g., -60°C or even lower).

Impurity adsorption: They can also adsorb other impurities in the feed gas, such as oil and hydrocarbons, providing a certain degree of purification.

Practical Applications:

The pretreatment system for an ozone generator typically includes multi-stage filtration (dust and oil removal) and a drying tower.

The drying tower is filled with molecular sieves or activated alumina (a combination of the two).

The system is typically designed as a dual or multi-tower system. While one tower is performing adsorption, the other is regenerated (by heating and purging to remove adsorbed moisture and impurities) to ensure a continuous air supply.

When using pure oxygen as the feedstock, the drying requirements are generally higher than when using air (due to the relatively higher moisture concentration), making molecular sieves more commonly used. When using air, activated alumina is often chosen for its economical performance, often in conjunction with molecular sieves.
