Characteristics of 3A Molecular Sieves
The 3A molecular sieve has a pore diameter of approximately 3Å (0.4nm), which is the origin of its name "3A". The main method for its preparation is to use 4A molecular sieve and replace the sodium ions (Na⁺) with potassium ions (K⁺) through ion exchange to obtain the 3A molecular sieve. The 3A molecular sieve has a strong adsorption capacity for water and can effectively adsorb molecules with a critical diameter no greater than 3Å (1Å = 0.1 Nona meters). It is mainly used for water adsorption. In practical applications, the 3A molecular sieve can adsorb a large amount of water in a short period of time. After reaching adsorption saturation, the 3A molecular sieve can be regenerated by heating, purging or vacuuming and reused. Due to its appropriate pore size, it can well accommodate water molecules, and during the water adsorption process, it has high selectivity, only adsorbing water and not any molecules with a diameter greater than 3Å, such as air, nitrogen, hydrogen, saturated hydrocarbons and other gas molecules will not be adsorbed. This characteristic makes it widely used in the drying and dehydration of gases and liquids.
Application
1, For Insulating Glass
3A molecular sieve is a commonly used desiccant in insulating glass. It is filled in the spacer bars of the insulating glass to absorb the moisture in the cavity of the insulating glass, maintaining a dry environment within the cavity. This helps prevent condensation and fogging inside the insulating glass, improving the insulation performance and service life of the insulating glass.
2, Unsaturated hydrocarbon drying
3A molecular sieves are commonly used in the drying and dehydration processes of unsaturated hydrocarbons such as ethylene, propylene and butadiene hydrocarbons.
3, Refrigerant desiccant
To remove the remaining moisture in the refrigerant, 3A molecular sieves can be selected. 3A molecular sieves have certain mechanical strength, high water adsorption capacity and chemical stability, and can be used to dry refrigerants such as chlorofluorocarbons, hydrofluorocarbons and alkanes.
4, Alcohol dehydration
The 3A molecular sieve can adsorb a large number of water molecules and also has a very good effect in removing trace moisture from alcohols. It can reduce the water content in alcohols to an extremely low level.
