The Application of 3A Molecular Sieve

3A Zeolite Molecular Sieve is A potassium ion (K⁺) type zeolite with a pore size of approximately 3A (0.3 nm). Due to its unique pore size and ion exchange characteristics, 3A molecular sieve has significant applications in multiple industrial fields, mainly focusing on the selective adsorption of small molecule substances, especially water molecules (with a kinetic diameter of approximately 2.6A). The following are its typical application scenarios:


Deep drying (dehydration)

(1) Petrochemical and natural gas industry

Cracking gas/olefin drying

In the production process of olefins such as ethylene and propylene, 3A molecular sieves can selectively adsorb moisture (avoiding the adsorption of larger hydrocarbon molecules), preventing water vapor from freezing and blocking pipelines during the low-temperature separation process.


Natural gas dehydration and liquefaction (LNG)

Remove the moisture in natural gas, prevent the formation of hydrates, and ensure the safety of pipeline transportation and liquefaction processes.


(2) Refrigeration system

Drying of refrigerants (such as R134a, R404a)

It is used in automotive air conditioning and industrial refrigeration systems to adsorb moisture in the refrigerant, preventing ice blockage and corrosion.


(3) Dehydration by polar solvents

It is suitable for deep drying of solvents such as ethanol, methanol and acetone (the moisture content can be reduced to below 10 ppm).


2. Selective adsorption and separation

Separation of ethanol/water azeotropic system

In the production of bioethanol, 3A molecular sieve can break the euboiling point by adsorbing moisture and improve the purity of ethanol (up to over 99.5%).


Desiccant for insulating glass (double-glazed glass)

It is used in the interlayer of double or triple glass to adsorb residual moisture, prevent the glass from fogging up and extend its service life.


3. Chemical and pharmaceutical industries

Drying of pharmaceutical intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients

For heat-sensitive drugs (such as antibiotics and vitamins), low-temperature dehydration should be carried out to avoid high-temperature degradation.


Polymerization reaction protection

In the synthesis of polyurethane (PU), polyester (PET), etc., it adsorbs moisture in raw materials (such as isocyanate, ethylene glycol) to prevent side reactions.
