Molecular sieves, silica gel and ceramic balls are filled inside the adsorption dryer (twin-tower TSA/PSA dryer). Their functions are different: Ceramic balls do not absorb water, while silica gel and molecular sieves are responsible for adsorption and dehydration.
The raw material humid air enters the tower and first passes through the bottom ceramic balls for gas distribution. The silica gel absorbs most of the water, while the molecular sieve absorbs the remaining trace moisture and outputs dry gas. In the other tower, the hot purging gas flows in the reverse direction, desorbing the water from the silica gel and molecular sieve, and discharging the exhaust gas to complete the regeneration; the two towers are switched at regular intervals.
Molecular sieves are generally selected as 4A. The molecular sieve has an extremely strong affinity for water absorption, even at very low water vapor concentrations, it still strongly absorbs water. It is suitable for deep drying and can reduce the dew point of compressed air to -60 to -70℃.
Silica gel has good resistance to liquid water impact. The WS model does not crack when encountering water, making it suitable for contact with liquid water.
The ceramic balls do not adsorb water and belong to the support layer of the packing. They support the silica gel and molecular sieve particles above and prevent fine adsorbents from leaking into the bottom pipelines of the equipment. The gas flow is evenly distributed throughout the adsorbent bed layer to avoid deviation, protecting the adsorbents and preventing the gas flow from scouring and grinding the adsorbents.
CHEMXIN has engaged in adsorbents and Tower packings since 2002, over 23 years of experience in manufacturer, development and installation guidance. Let’s share more cases and study together.
